Well I decided not to take a hiatus from blogging after all, but I'm not sure about this challenge. I'm not even sure when we were supposed to read the first books by. Either way I'll be reading Kafka on the Shore at some point

Violetcrush: VioletCrush's Review — I have finished Carrie by Stephen King for this Challenge. I loved the book. I was actually recommended Pet Semetary by Jennifer and Sandy, but I couldn't find that, so I read Carrie instead. Do check out my review of Carrie HERE Thank you to everyone who took time out to recommend me books. I have added them all to my wishlist :)
Fyrefly: Fyrefly's reviews — Well, even though the challenge is *technically* only to read one book, I liked my recommendations so much that I read another one (and am starting a third, although I don't know if I'll get it read and reviewed by the end of this round). The Monsters of Templeton was suggested by Literate Housewife under the "modern and historical" request. I really enjoyed it - the writing was lovely, the…
Multigenrefan: Jen (Multigenrefan)'s recommendation thread — Do to a number of reasons I need to take a hiatus from blogging and as such will not be able to complete this challenge. My apologies
Fyrefly: Sandy's Review — Very nice! I've got Interpreter of Maladies (and The Namesake, actually) on my TBR pile, but I've been leery of starting them since I haven't had the best of luck with Southwest Asian authors. I'll have to get over that and read it, though, since it sounds like it's pretty good![url]'s the link for future reference. :)
Fyrefly: Fyrefly's reviews — My first read, Patriot's Dream by Barbara Michaels, was suggested by heidenkind. I asked for a book with intertwining modern and historical storylines, and I definitely got what I asked for. :) The modern storyline was a little silly for me, but the historical sections were quite good. The full review is at my blog
Girlthatreads: Karen's Recommendations — A book I'm reading now that I think fits your description is White Oleander by Janet Fitch. You can really feel for the protagonist in the story
